Topic: Lullabies and its many aspects.
Im looking 4 any books or refrences talking about "LULLABIES" in
English or French, its characteristic , properties ,....
As you probably already know, the word "lullaby" comes from putting the word "lull" (which means to soothe or calm) together with the word "by", as in goodbye.
A lullaby is a soothing refrain or more specifically, a song to quiet children or lull them to sleep. A lullaby uses very simple language and syllabic meter with a melody.
Lullabies are classified as "Folk Literature." They are literary works based on syllabic meter like minstrel poetry, but different from the classical school of poetry. Folk Literature is oral literary works whose owners can not be determined such as proverbs, legends, tales, stories, anecdotes, lullabies, folksongs, riddles, folk music forms, and wailing.
Folk Literature can also be classified as "Folklore." Lore is the traditional knowledge and beliefs of cultures transmitted by word of mouth. Lullabies have been passed down through many generations this way.
This is an excellent resource for multicultural lullabies and references.
