Topic: Dairy Products in U.S. States

ClassBrain Visitor:

Which US state is well-known for its dairy products???

ClassBrain Response:

When most people think about dairy products associated with a state it's usually Wisconsin's cheese, California's milk, or Vermont's cows. The actual statistical information might surprise you. The following states ALL had dairy as their #1 Commodity for 2001 according to the most recent data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture:

California - $4,630,171 in receipts
Idaho - $1,042,740 in receipts
Maine - $105,787 in receipts
Michigan - $881,600 in receipts
New Mexico - $814,592 in receipts
New York - $1,840,858 in receipts
Pennsylvania - $1,791,804 in receipts
Vermont - $418,226 in receipts
Washington - $839,052 in receipts
Wisconsin - $3,243,272 in receipts

So the states that produce and sell the MOST dairy products would be California, Idaho, New York, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin according to dollar amounts in receipts.
