Department of Agriculture Photograph Collection
These photos document agricultural activities in Vermont from the 1920's to the 1960's. Included are photographs of dairy, sheep, poultry, tobacco, potato and Christmas tree farms as well as apple orchards, ice harvesting, and maple syrup production. There are wonderful scenic shots of farms, as well as a number of photos showing Vermont's involvement in the Eastern States Exposition from 1929 to 1952 along with other exhibitions and fairs.

Development Department/Travel Division Photograph Collection
There is such a wide range of subjects that only a glimpse of the collection can be given in this summary. Subjects include ski shots and 1930's skiing to 1993. Outdoor activities are widely represented including camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, golf, and horseback riding. There are photos of fairs, celebrations, parades as well as scenic landscapes. Governors and other state officials are shown participating in various activities and there are photos of government buildings and government employees at work. There are even scenes of movies made in Vermont, historic sites, town activities and covered bridges.

Department of Highways Photograph Collection
This is a large collection ranging from 1909 to 1978. There are aerial shots, bridge and road construction, historic sites, lakes and lake roads, signs, winter scenes (including snow removal), mountains and mountain roads. Subjects included are steam drills, blasting, men at work, clay roads, muddy roads, washed out roads, ice jams, steel bridges, wooden bridges and general scenic shots. Many of these photographs are Vermont Federal Aid Projects, starting in the early 1920's, and Vermont Flood Relief Projects. The massive destruction of the 1927 flood is documented, as is flood reconstruction.

Houston Studio Photograph Collection
The Houston Studio served unofficially as state government photographer and many of the photographs in this collection (c. 1921-1963) are government related. Subjects include legislative groups (1931-1963), state government buildings (especially the State House), and state employees at work.

Department of Public Safety Photograph Collection
These photographs document activities of the Department of Public Safety from its creation in 1947 to 1968. Most of the photos date from the 1950's. There are a number of group photos of State Police Recruit Classes at Barre Academy, as well as shots of troopers' target practice, dusting for fingerprints, patrol cars, State Police exhibits and various ceremonial events.
