Guitar Tuner
Use this excellent online tool to tune your guitar. You can do a standard tuning, a number of variants, or adjust a particular string to a custom tuning, all with a click of your mouse.

Guitar Lessons
These lesson are available for students of all levels and styles. There are lessons on theory with everything from scales and modes to chord construction. Additionally, there are guitar tabs available for many popular songs. There are also many resources that are not directly related to guitar lessons. These resources show minor repairs, tips, blues licks, and much more.

Riff ‘O the Week and Online Lessons
Each week this site posts another free lesson showing step-by-step instructions on how to play a riff. There is also a listen feature and a video of the placement of your hands in the lesson. Some lessons require membership, but there are a number of free lessons that you can try out first.

Guitar Scales

Scale Creator – Guitar
Choose a root note and a scale type from the two drop down menus. You’ll receive a printable chart showing all of the guitar notes in that scale. A great tool!

The Arpeggiator
Similar to the Scale Creator. Choose your root note and chord type to see a chart of all of the note locations on your guitar. These can be used to create chords or to play single notes in a progression like a scale, known as an arpeggio.

This interesting tool allows you to pick a key, specify a progression and a style, and then generate an audio version of your creation.

Chord Finder
This is one of the best tools for a new guitar player. Choose your root note and then specify any modification of the note and you’ll see how to play the chord on the guitar. Click next to see the other finger placements of the same chord. An excellent tool!

Guitar Noise
This site lists itself as an “online guitar college.” There are lessons for beginner and intermediate students, which cover bass guitar as well as acoustic and electric guitars. There are also lessons on how to tune your guitar, changing bad habits, setting up a jam session, and just about everything else to do with guitar playing, including songwriting.
